NAKURU YMCA

Brief History

Established 1960 as one of the 27 branches of Kenya YMCA. Nakuru YMCA is a faith based organization working in the community to develop it holistically.

NAKURU YMCA OBJECTIVE

  • To strengthen Christian values in the community through the youth.
  • Empower the youth to self-reliance through education and training.
  • Have youthful fun.

Youth Programmes

Under the youth program Nakuru YMCA branch entail to enhance the capacity of young people and expose them to the challenging society through

  • Civic competence and literacy programs
  • Youth and justice programs
  • Establishment of the economic renaissance programs
  • Organize open day and joint activities through networking
  • To establish and implement civic action plans and advocacy

Sports and Recreation

Nakuru branch continue to use sport and recreation as an attractive and developmental way of bringing the youth together and bridging the gaps that exist in the community, this is done through young people having fun and making new friends. Through sports we have been able to carry out community mobilization for voter registration and hold a peace family day

At the branch we have Footballs team girls and boys and Volleyball team

Educational Programmes

Nakuru YMCA Seconadary School is owned by the YMCA of Kenya.  The School was established in 2007 with the following objectives: -

•To maintain a School based on Christian Principles for the education and training of needy youth.

•To provide secondary education to needy youth who for financial or other reasons have been unable to continue with education at high   school level.

The School opened its doors in 2007 where needy students were admitted for the learning. In 2008 the school witnessed an influx of internally displaced students who were admitted and fully sponsored by YMCA.  Since 2008 the school has been struggling to meet operational costs because of limited resources that are received by the school in form of fees. As a result hundreds of needy youth have been able to receive education something that has given them hope in life.

Kenya YMCA continues to fundraise for those who cannot afford the fee and to date 15 orphans are fully sponsored through this effort.

Community Services

Nakuru YMCA continues to offer community service as a mean of bonding and creating ownership, the community members continue to play a vital role in sustainability process of the branch, Young people practice community service through garbage collection, drainage unblocking, environmental maintenance, through community service young people continue to cultivate a culture of responsible citizens.
